Hardy Plants

The group meets on the 1st Wednesday in the month at 2.00pm in members’ homes/gardens.  We are a small group with 15 places, to allow for practical garden skills to be learned.  The group specialises in the study of hardy plants: herbaceous perennials, shrubs and ornamental trees that are hardy to RHS level 4.

We rely on the skills and knowledge of group members for our learning, encouraging contributions in the spirit of U3A learning.  Examples of our activities include practical sessions on hard wood cuttings, composting, taxonomy, root cuttings, soil science, hardy geraniums and unusual spring bulbs.  We have also made a number of visits to specialist gardens.  Our new programme is available from September each year.
