The u3a Pocklington group currently comprises some 13 or 14 like-minded u3a members, all of whom are amateurs with a shared enthusiasm for military history.
There is a Presentation at each meeting, with no limitation on how wide the interest is set, whether concerning a specific period for example, or a battle, campaign or a special interest area such as advances in weaponry. Hence the five annual meetings over the last decade have ranged from early Greek battles, the Napoleonic era, Enigma, the Women' Land Army, a familial military medal, jets in air power.... it’s a very broad spectrum of interest.
The emphasis remains on this u3a group belonging to its members and having their engagement. Members with a personal interest and/or experience can and do offer presentations if they wish, but nobody is in the least obliged to do so. Presenters are otherwise identified from group members' contact with individuals who are happy and kind enough to volunteer sharing their knowledge and interest with us.
Meetings are held in Yapham Village Hall from 10.00am to 11.45am on the third Tuesdays of January, March, May, July and October annually. In order to cover hire of the venue, all members and attendees contribute to the minimal essential running costs on the day itself and, if taken, to the costs of available hot refreshments.
Any amendments are notified direct to registered group members, so any other interested u3a members are advised always to speak in advance with the group leader as shown below. New members are always welcome and the Hall is spacious enough for additional attendees.
