Boules/ Pétanque

As early as the 6th century BC the ancient Greeks are recorded to have played a game of tossing coins, then flat stones, and later stone balls, trying to have them go as far as possible. The ancient Romans modified the game by adding a target that had to be approached as closely as possible. The game developed over centuries until in 1910 the rules of pétanque were developed in the town of La Ciotat, in Provence. Pétanque is now the dominant boules sport in France, where you will see people of all ages playing it from the smallest of villages through to the largest of cities.  And this now includes Pocklington!   Please come along and give this very enjoyable outdoor game a try. It is a great way to meet with friends and enjoy a bit of relaxed and fun competition. The group will be meeting regularly during the good weather months, at West Green. Pétanque is an enjoyable competitive friendly game, played for fun. So why don’t you come and give it a try?

During winter months, our meetings may be infrequent and irregular due to the weather.

Please contact the Group Leader to get your email address or phone number added to the list of group members.  Members will then be invited by email / SMS to attend sessions, depending on the weather.
